Keynote: Research Skills and their Application in the (Big Data) Industry

During your time in academia, you'll acquire a broad range of skills, such as experimentation, data evaluation, problem solving, presenting, and many more. Some of them seem to obviously translate into industry roles, such as the classical software engineer,  but others maybe not so much. In this talk, I want to share my experience of the things I did learn during my PhD, which parts I now use a lot, and what I would have liked to know at an earlier stage in my life.

Biography: Dominik Buse (Distributed Systems Performance Engineer, Snowflake Computing) graduated with a PhD in Computer Science from TU Berlin, after previously studying and working as a research at Paderborn University. His research focused on the simulation of wireless Car2Car networks. He then switched domains into cloud databases and now optimizes the performance of Snowflake's huge data platform by authoring benchmarks, building distributed system analysis tooling, and shaping how Snowflake uses the next generations of high-performance cloud hardware
