Membership

For GI members, joining KuVS is cheap and easy: Existing GI members can visit the GI membership area of the GI website, click on “Mitgliedschaft / Mitgliedschaft und Leistungen”, “Fachgruppen”, “Beitreten”, choose “SYS”, then “Kommunikation und Verteilte Systeme”, and click on “Fachgruppe beitreten”.

At the time of writing, joining KuVS as a GI member is only 5 Eur per year.

If you are not a member of GI yet, you can join by visiting the GI membership website, clicking on “Jetzt Mitglied werden”, and filling out the online form. At the time of writing, memberships at GI are free(!) for Bachelor and Master students, with the most expensive membership option costing 105 Eur per year. Membership is heavily discounted for members of sister organisations like IEEE (10%) and ACM (25%) – and many sister organisations, in turn, offer heavily discounted rates for GI members.

This is on top of additional benefits for GI members like fixed rate (75 Eur) full fare train tickets to any GI event on any German DB line, discounts of up to 20% by many hotel chains, and discounts of up to 33% at car rental companies – all of which can be booked online, via the GI membership area.

Joining as a member of only KuVS (neither in the context of a membership in GI nor ITG) is possible by becoming “assoziiertes Mitglied” of this “Fachgruppe” at GI. An offline form for joining is available via the GI website.

At the time of writing, an associated membership is 7,50 Eur per year.
